Preventive Care for Your Teeth and Gums

You don't have to expect to lose teeth as you grow older. Maintain a full set of teeth for as long as you can with help from Clifton Dental Group. We offer general and preventive dentistry that to ensure your teeth and gums remain as healthy as possible.

Below please find a brief overview of procedures we offer to help you always maintain your smile healthy.

Protect your smile, prevent disease

We emphasize prevention, because we truly believe that most serious dental problems can be avoided with routine cleanings and quality preventative care. If you stop tooth decay before it requires root canal therapy or worse, it could save you lots of time and money down the road. Routine dental cleanings will remove any plaque build-up, and our nightguards will prevent you from wearing down your teeth during sleep. Our fluoride treatment and dental sealants are effective against dental plaque formation in the first place, and our state-of-the-art digital X-rays give us a complete picture of your oral health. All of these treatments combined provide a comprehensive approach to preventing tooth decay, subsequently giving your smile the foundation to last a lifetime!

Seeing your dentist at least twice a year is recommended for cleanings and checkups. In addition to regular brushing and flossing, preventive services are the easiest ways to maintain the overall health of your mouth. Preventive care typically includes:

  • Prophylaxis and Sealants
  • Fluoride Treatments
  • Space Maintainers
  • Oral Hygiene Instruction

Initial Oral Examination

The goal of an initial oral examination is to assess the health of your teeth and gums and to identify any problems at an early stage. After your visit, we may recommend endodontic or periodontal care if your teeth or gums show signs of advanced disease. In addition to taking the appropriate X-rays during your initial examination, our dentists provide:

  • General Head and Neck Exam
  • Oral Cancer and
    Skin Cancer Screening
  • Visual Examination of Teeth
  • Charting
  • Periodontal Probing
  • Diagnosis and Treatment Recommendations
  • Bite analysis

Other Dental Services

Even when we try to prevent tooth and gum disease, problems can occur.  Clifton Dental Group provides effective root canal treatment for badly infected teeth and periodontal care for advanced gum disease.

Endodontic/Root Canal Treatment

Come to us for pain-free root canal treatment. We typically perform this service when the soft tissue inside a tooth, also known as the pulp, is either inflamed or dead. The pulp is a tissue made up of nerves, connective tissue, and blood vessels.

The purpose of root canal treatment is to remove the inflamed tissue or bacteria inside the root canal and thus allow the surrounding tissues to heal.

What are the symptoms that indicate the need for root canal therapy?

Symptom 1: Moderate to Severe Lingering Toothache When Having Hot or Cold Foods
Symptom 2: Toothache Pain So Intense It Wakes You up at Night
Symptom 3: Pain When Chewing or Biting
Symptom 4: Swelling on Your Gum Which When Pressed May Release Blood or Pus
Symptom 5: Pain That Starts in One Tooth and Spreads to Other Regions of the Jaw or Head, e.g. an Infected Lower Molar (Back Tooth) May Cause You to Feel Pain in the Ear (Sometimes, however, there may be no symptoms. If properly performed and under normal circumstances, a root canal-treated tooth can last you a lifetime.)

All patients need and deserve to have a complete periodontal examination and to have a complete record of their status recorded in their dental chart. This is the only way to ensure that advanced periodontal disease is detected.

A thorough periodontal examination provides a way to identify beginning changes in periodontal status that will benefit patients by initiating early and simple treatment. Based on our patients' needs, we recommend periodontal treatment, from a vast list of therapies we offer. We specialize in conservative and minimally invasive periodontal therapy.
